According to a recent interview on contactmusic.com, "The Man" himself, Stan Lee has indicated that should Obama become President, then many Marvel characters will likely be taken in a strongly black direction. We're already seeing this as Rhodey will be taking over SHIELD and the reimagining of Nick Fury as black in all non-616 continuities, but ( Read more... )

I agree.

This rumor's been bandied about Hollywood for a solid month or so now and is the hottest comic book movie gossip, despite being denied by most parties involved.

Black is in, thanks to people like Obama.

*Rhodey making a huge comeback.
*Sam Jackson Nick Fury.
*Luke Cage leading the Avengers.
*Black Panther steadily taking over Reed *Richards role in the MU (even so much as to briefly taking his spot and function on the FF)

Certain minds in Marvel believe "hey, we took Nick Fury and made him black and ended up making him more popular than he ever was, so what if we turned other major characters black?"

What the fuck? There are no good reasons to vote for John McCain.

If you don't vote for John McCain, Will Smith will be Captain America. And the terrorists will win.

I fucking hate Will Smith, but I'd cut my balls off with a lawnmower before I vote McCain. Don't joke about that shit, man!

I don't really know the context of what Stan Lee was saying because I don't care enough to go listen to the interview; however, I don't really think Stan Lee knows those kinds of details about the editorial decisions at Marvel these days. That's not the kind of stuff I can imagine the guys inviting Stan to come listen into. Sound like more of his crazy opinion than something Marvel would actually do. I highly doubt Marvel will change the race of any of their main-stream heroes. I think Nick Fury made sense. It fits in the Ultimate Universe. But Fury is not an icon like Captain America.

Of course, you are right.

Stan Lee, as awesome as he is, only has a figurehead role left with Marvel.

I think the quote was merely a prediction in trend. After all, he's been in the business for a very long time.

But don't say NEVER. After all, they made Iron Man black for a time. And we've seen even recently with Cap that they can get away with secret identity changeouts.
