He hasn't seen Cassie one on one in awhile. He didn't want to rub her nose in things after her surgery and she got her dad back and family is important. But it's been long enough and he's been worried about her the way a big brother worries.

He's had good reasons for worrying the way a big brother does. Not that Cass would tell him that.

"I think I've found something out you might want to know."

Eli looks at her askew. "Not why I'm checking in, but - shoot."

Good Eli, let her feel helpful every now and then. She lowered her voice. "Someone broke into one of Stark's labs. He's looking for help, but you didn't hear it from me." She said it with a little grin that said she was going to go do something about it.

"'Course I didn't. Saw the break-in in the papers, but can I assume it wasn't a counterfeit Iron Man, then." He remembers Kate. "Guess I should let you know...I've got an 'in,' from the other side."

"You do? Who?"

"A patron. She's worried about someone she knows who works at Stark's old company. Oh, and she works with X-Corp and is going to let us call her instead of getting static at X-Land. Wanna play telephone?"

"You trust her?"

[lt_legacy]

"Yeah, I do. She was in that paintball game everyone was playing, so that seems like a good reference. I also don't like the idea of bringing mutant kids to someone I sense has an agenda. I think the only thing she wants in life is her boyfriend out of hot water." He shrugs. "Believe it or not, I'm a sucker for that sort of thing."

"Well then, let's play."

"Why do I feel like I just joined SHIELD?" he muses.

"In other news, I saw Nate recently. He's being the biggest supergenius idiot that possibly ever lived. Sorry. Good news is, he loves you."

Cassie had the deer in the headlights look for a second. "Uh, yeah, I know." And that would be the closest she'd come to ever telling Eli that she was sneaking out to make out kang see Nate without having to go through that annoying parental supervision rule her father put in place.

"Figured." He has a mild version of "the look," but it softens and goes away.

"He was giving me the 'you can't save me, I'm KANG!' lecture. You getting that too?"
