...And We Danced On Into the Night

Feb 14, 2008 12:33

For once the Danger Room didn't seem all that Dangerous. It was decked out in decorations, both large and small, dedicated to the holiday that was Valentine's Day. Hearts and cupids were everywhere, including some holographic ones that were floating in the air ( Read more... )

Sofia and Jay arrived together. Sofia had gone to a lot of trouble to radiate beauty and it worked. Her make up was just right. Her white dress clung to her enough to show her curves but not enough to show her belly. The front of her dress slanted away to reveal well muscled legs from dancing. The back did trail on the ground but if she had to she could use her wind powers to keep it from tangling in her shoes. And then there was the top, trimmed with golden yellow, with thin straps around her neck and shoulder. It had taken forever to find a strapless bra and she only hoped it would work properly.

Jay was wearing a suit, specially tailored, wings free, and the single girls were swooning a little and getting giggly when he walked past them, but tonight, all his focus was on one girl that he intended to show a good time.

Of course, his thoughts were straying somewhat traitorously towards another girl, one who he wondered would look like in one of the dresses the girls were wearing. No makeup even. Just a smile on her face and--

Was that wrong to wonder about that? She hadn't wanted to be scene during the business with Mojo, but he couldn't un-see it. He just wondered.

But regardless, he was here with Sofia, and he did enjoy her company, quite a bit, and he was going to show her a good time and that was that.

Sofia couldn't help but notice that Jay seemed distracted.

...Maybe she put on too much blush? Was the dress too tight? Oh God what if her bra had slipped down? No wait, no, she could feel it in the right place.

Nope, nothing wrong, and he caught himself zoning, blinked, and turned to her.

"Y'know, you look absolutely gorgeous tonight."

"Thank you."

Icarus might have been distracted earlier but the boy did know how to give a compliment. It was that southern charm.

"This is probably a dumb question, knowin' you, but wanna dance?"

"I would love to."

Sooraya watched the two of them dance for about a moment, waiting for a tactful moment to talk to Jay.

Truth be told, it wasn't going to be something difficult to do; Jay was by no means a stranger to her. However, she was more concerned for Julian's well-being. The guy was probably going to get well and thoroughly thrashed about. Well, that's going to have to be his problem, I suppose. I can plead at least partial ignorance. Right?

Her eyes traveled to the nearby punch-bowl. She walked over to it and poured herself a glass, then returned to hold up the wall closest to Sofia and Jay. She sipped daintily on her drink, waiting for said opportune moment.

"I still can't figure out how you can dance that well," said Jay, smiling at her and trying not to stumble over his feet.

It was then, twirling her, that he saw the young woman leaning against the wall.

Even though he'd seen her...not wearing much, that was quite different from seeing her in a dress, all prettied up, but when he recognized her, his eyes popped wide and he burst out with a loud: "Dang!"

Then flushed, and pulled Sofia back in from her twirl, and quickly apologized.

"Sorry, I ain't gawking or nothing. It's just surprising. Look at Sooraya."

Ouch.

Sofia looked over and there was Sooraya and at once she felt so... ugly.

Did there always have to be another woman?

"She is pretty." Sofia tried to sound normal but her voice was dull.

Jay twirled her.

"You're pretty, Sofia," he said. "Listen, I was just surprised. I came here with you."

For once that night Sofia stumbled.

"I'm sorry. I know I shouldn't be jeaolous."

"Ah, given the circumstances, I don't quite blame you."

He twirled her back in.

"Just don't worry about it none, alright? I'm not gonna lie, I wanna talk to Sooraya tonight and maybe Cessily and all, but they're just my friends, and I'm here with you. Only way that'll change if you'd want to go off with someone else."

"You can talk to her now. I wouldn't mind having some punch now." She could use a break to shake herself mentally. Jay wasn't Julian. She wasn't going to be jealous.

Sofia smiled. "Yes. There will be lots more time to dance later."

And if she was lucky the punch would be spiked so she could get suitable tipsy if she drank enough of it.
