For the longest time, Venus had believed that she was truly Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. Not too long ago, she'd discovered that, in truth, she had once been a cold, ruthless naiad who had lured people to her with her beautiful voice, and then fed upon them. A curse had changed that, though, and along the way, Venus had fooled herself into believing what was the easiest lie. She knew the truth now, and though it was a truth that was hard for her to live with at first, she's gotten used to it.
Indeed, knowing the truth about her has helped more than its hurt. She can even credit her knowledge of the truth to helping her start a wonderful relationship with Bob.
Bob.
Venus turned away from the large glass mirror in her room on Bob's spaceship, a gentle, pleasurable shiver going over her body. Bob.
She loved him. Very much. She could admit it freely and wonderfully. She was in love with Bob. It was a beautiful feeling, filled with warmth and joy and tenderness and everything that was good in this world. The feeling was perfect.
She looked back out the window, sighing contentedly. Love. It was such a beautiful thing. Few people understood its power, or the effect it had on people. They spoke of it, and wrote of it, and sang of it, sure. But doing all of that was very different from truly understanding the emotion. Venus understood it all too well. Though she wasn't truly the goddess of love, her powers were still very much based on that emotion, and she understood it's every nuance.
She wondered, as she gazed down on the planet below her, how those on Earth were faring on today.
Valentine's Day.
The celebration of love.
Were they truly celebrating down there, as she was? Or were there those that were lost and lonely in love that was unspoken of, or unrequited?
