Searching for Presents!!!! (They have to be around here somewhere...)

Oct 18, 2007 18:24

In a week or so, something awesome was going to happen. Luna was going to turn eight years old. With birthdays came presents. Every kid in the world (and on the moon) knew this little bit. The trick was finding where they were hidden. So, taking a slight (unscheduled) break from lessons, Luna was looking to get Lockjaw in on this game of 'find ( Read more... )

At least the clod has the good sense not to ruin a child's birthday.

"An acceptable solution."

Although Gorgon is likely to get her swords and maces.

Luna considered that, "I guess. What'cha going to get me?! Is it going to be totally awesome!"

She would love anything she could run around and cut things with. Or those dolphins. Or more candy.

"And how many? And are you going to hide them all over or just in one place?" she said, talking quickly. Always more open with Cousin Gorgon than most other adults.

He picks her up to put her on his shoulders. "Well, that depends... where would you like to go?"

Yes, he's perfectly aware that he's taking her away from her father without even acknowledging his presence.

He has to be nicer than usual in Luna's presence, after all.

Lockjaw happily moves to Gorgon's side - after all, it's likely they're going to make a trip to Earth for this stuff, right?

Of course, Luna still has the Thing toy that holds his attention.

From her perch on Gorgon's shoulder's Luna giggled and dangled the toy in front of Lockjaw, "I want to go to Earth," she said smiling, "They have all the best stuff there! We can go to toy stores or candy stores..."

There are so many things they could buy. "And will you get me anything?" she hugged her cousin's head, "Anything I want?"

Pietro makes no move to join them as they head away...

He simply watches as Luna happily trods off with the belligerent ogre, with no acknowledgment to his presence.

A cold sensation in his belly, the feeling that he does not rank high on his own daughter's list of favorite people.

If Gorgon knew the thoughts in Pietro's head, he'd likely approve of them. After all, he suspects that Pietro should not be high on anyone's list of favorite people. He's still confused by what Crystal saw in him in the first place, and thinks of him as little more than a sperm-donor for his beloved young cousin.

"We shall see... what is it that you think you'd like most?"

He already knows what Crystal got her, and he doesn't want to outdo Crystal's gifts.

"I want dolphins!" she said without hesitation. Yep. Real. Live. Dolphins. "But stuffed ones would be okay too..." she had some sense of what was totally impossible.

Wait, Father isn't following them. She knew that Cousin Gorgon and Father didn't get along... but... "Is father coming too, or just us?"

He stops and glances up, thankful that, on his shoulders, she can't see his expression of pure disdain and loathing.

"Would you like him to come?"

Luna looked over at her father sort of turning around, "Are you coming too, Father?"

Of course she'd like her Father to go. Then she'd have two people to buy her stuff and not just one.

If it worked like that.

Maybe it would. Besides if he was here he shouldn't be sulking all the time.

It takes a moment of consideration. On one hand, letting Gorgon handle babysitting and not having to actually endure conversation with the lout.

The other hand... he doesn't wish to discourage his daughter's attempts to include him in things.

So. For Luna.

"Of course I am."

Karnak rounded the corridor a minute ago. He's silently observed the two men and child for a moment, before approaching with a clear of his throat.

"Care for a third adventure-goer, fair young cousin?" The better to keep an eye and possibly the peace between the two other men. More importantly, to keep an eye on Luna considering her last trip to earth. He wonders briefly if attracting trouble is encoded upon her genes.

Or causing it, as he considers the reflection pools. There's still the trace of glitter in them.

"Grawf!"

Lockjaw counts.

"Cousin Karnak is always welcome in adventure!"

That's right. Pietro's only welcome because Luna says so. Karnak's welcome just because he's Karnak.

"Yay!" This is great, she Lockjaw, Cousin Gorgon, Cousin Karnak and Father were all going shopping. "This is going to be fun!" she said, throwing up her arms from her perch on Gorgon's back.

"Toy store first, then a candy store, then we should all go see a movie!"

Karnak is much more tolerable than Gorgon, and should hopefully prove to be a mitigating factor if the lumbering oaf veers toward the obnoxious.

"What sort of toys could you possibly want for, Luna?"
