Alex was not looking forward to the meeting he was about to have. It was going to be hard enough to tell Charles about Lorna and how things had gone so very wrong, but then to step away from the X-Men ... again ... under such a cloud?
Much, much harder.
He took the train up as far as it would go and then caught a cab to the Mansion proper. The security system was still programmed to accomodate him as a friend and ally, which was somewhat reassuring. He wiped away the line of sweat that appeared on his forehead - he always had body-temperature issues when he was seriously nervous - and knocked on the door to the Professor's study.
