It was getting dark outside, but that didn't bother Catseye. The city stink was more annoying and all the noisy, nosey people were worse. Catseye had not meant to lose Bigdumbstrongthing so thuroughly, and now she was rather sorry that she had. She'd only loped off to check out a squealing sound coming from beneath a dumpster. Whatever had been making the noise was too far back to be hooked with a paw, so she'd reached in without thinking...
...and found herself almost completely hairless and pink-skinned. The new body had been strange and alien...but not wholly unfamiliar. At least it still had a tail. But it was cold and she could barely hear or smell and she didn't like it! Not only that, more humans were staring now and pointing and some were approaching. Even on two legs, she was faster than most of them, and certainly quicker.
Now, though she'd shaken off most pursuit, but there's a pack of determined humans that she hasn't managed to slip away from yet, with gruff, angry voices. She's tiring; cats are made for sprinting, not extended chase. They close. One grabs her tail to pull her down and she turns to bite. Even now, her teeth are sharp.
The loud scream of surprise echoes through the back alley.
