So, I'm on the downhill run with the second book in a series. I've tentatively titled the series "The Witches of Galdorheim." Okay, maybe not that catchy unless you know the derivation of Galdr and Heim. My dilemma is querying for the second book in a series as a standalone. Yeah, I'd like to sell the series, but if I have to do it piecemeal, then that's the way it goes. Any comments on the query are welcome and appreciated.
MIDNIGHT OIL, a completed 47,000 word fantasy, is the story of teen witch-in-training Katya, who discovers that a dear friend has vanished and embarks on a perilous journey to find him.
Katya waits on the dock of Galdorheim Island, the Arctic haven for witches she calls home, for the arrival of her boyfriend, Andi. Eager to see him after six months, she doesn't know that he has been kidnapped by an evil forest spirit bent on luring her sister air spirit into a battle to the death, a spirit disguised as Katya's dearest friend and neighbor. Katya embarks on a quest to find him, and becomes caught between the warring spirits. She must call on all the power of her family and some unusual friends--a whale and a legendary sea serpent--to help free Andi from the evil spirit's clutches.
