Why can't we hand-pick the impressions we leave?

I found this funny, but it also brought to light how I am sure all of us would like to hand-pick the impressions we leave on others. I would like to be thought of as insightful, funny, vibrant and smart. Pretty as well, but that as a last impression. When thanking Candice for a gift she sent, she replied sweetly and added:

ps. My grandmother sends "kimmy? The fiesty one with the boobs?" (her question when I told her about your troubles) her love.

Oh well. At least it wasn't a bad impression.
