A Performing Arts Day--Part I

Apr 28, 2007 16:10

Lizzy's Saturday Viola Club gave their recital today, and a total of 13 students performed solos for their parents and relatives, with piano accompaniment.

Lizzy played the first movement (Largo) of Georg Philipp Telemann's Concerto in G Major for Viola, and she was great!

I have heard Lizzy rehearse at home, and knew she was getting better, but I have not been to her private lessons since they were held on Saturdays a couple of years ago. Now she has her lesson on Tuesday afternoon while I am at work.  And when she plays in her orchestras, I cannot of course hear her individually!  So this recital was so nice for me, she was very "composed" ;) and performed excellently!  :D

The really neat thing was, she gave the piece her own interpretation, it was not just a series of notes like a more inexperienced student might play. Her artistry really drew me into the music, it had feeling and a presence. That was so cool! :)

And the other three players, who each completed one of the remaining three movements, had their own style, so that was interesting to compare and contrast. At the end, they all stood up and held up parts of a sign that read "Telemann" that Lizzy had helped put together! :)

The second part of my day is to see my co-worker Christina at her semi-annual hip-hop performance in New Haven, CT, about an hour and a half drive away. One other person from the office is going, too, and I need to leave soon! :)  More on that later!
