On of the best purchases I ever made was an alarm clock with a CD player. Im one of those people that wake up very easily and the jarring buzz or beep of standard alarm clocks is overkill. With the CD player i generally wake up to the sound of the CD spinning before the song comes on. This has come in handy on days where the volume was turned way down for some reason or another.
For my entire grad year at QU I kept Whiskeytown, Faithless Street in my alarm clock. The secret to a good alarm clock CD is the first 15-30 seconds of the first song and Midway Park is a perfect fit. I love the way that that song starts. The only downside is that now whenever i hear it i have an incredibly strong association with waking up.
Right now I have Alison Krauss, Lonely Runs Both Ways in my alarm clock. Her voice is definitely better to wake up to then a morning show djs voice or god forbid beeping or buzzing. Im a little nervous that it may be too soothing for an alarm clock. As the newness of work wears off im starting to want to lay in bed and just listen to this CD which makes me want to curl back up and sleep some more.
Ah well, im going to stick with this one for a while (unless it becomes a problem) cause i really cant think of a replacement wake up CD right now.
Off to Jury Duty!!!!
