So my roommate woke me up at 3:30 this morning to tell me the house next door was on fire. We joined her dad out on the back deck and holy shit was it on fire! It was completely ablaze...embers were falling everywhere - on us, on the deck, on the trees. Liz and I kept wiping our heads to get the embers and ash out of our hair. This borough of Harrisburg has 1, maybe 2 firetrucks, but Liz counted 12 on the street. The driveway back to the burning house was too narrow for a firetruck, so they used our driveway and parking lot.
Luckily the house that burned down was behind their regular house. The house they live in is really nice, but the one that burned down was a piece of crap. They used to rent it out, but apparently they haven't kept it up for quite a while. Doc, Liz and I were all a bit suspicious about how the fire even got started if no one was living there and there was no electricity (we figured maybe it was all for the insurance money) but we got our answer today. On the side door of the house in front someone had written "Payback is a bitch." The guy who owns the place is a lawyer, so I'm guessing he lost a case and the guy who hired him wasn't very happy about it. The news trucks were here when I got home from working at school today...I'm sure you local folks will see stome stuff about it tonight if you watch.
Liz snapped some photos of the blaze...I'll post them here once she downloads them.
