things i ate at the fair

Okay, before you judge me, bear in mind that it was really hot and humid, and as such, I wasn't as hungry as usual. Plus, item #2 was disturbingly elusive, so a lot of time was lost tracking it down, because once I got it in my head that I wanted it, nothing else would do, breaking my cardinal rule of "thou shalt never go hungry at The Fair," as I paced about with a growling tummy, hoping I would stumble upon this would-be holy grail of flavor fusion. (Eventually it occurred to me that the internet might could help, googled it, and, lo and behold, found it was actually in sight of where I was standing. But there will be more this Friday. My to-do list is vast, and comprised mostly of food.

Always my first food of the fair. The fact that it was 8:30 in the morning didn't faze me in the slightest.

A poor photo of a most wonderful concoction. Would I have gone for it if Michael Symon hadn't just made it on Dinner: Impossible? Probably not. But he did, and I did, and it was fantastic. Two great tastes that taste great together.

Good, but the variety of veggies involved left something to be desired. While understandable, given that it had to be things one could skewer and serve on a stick, I think I'll just stick to veggie tempura in the future. But the stand had been there ever since I could remember, and it was time I gave it a try.

Wonderful. One of the greatest additions of the last couple of years, and almost enough to fill the void left in my heart when Sarno's Gelato closed lo these many years ago.

Good, but my trips to Eichmann's have me a little spoiled when it comes to buffalo meat, so it wasn't quite the wow I was hoping for.

In other news, I hit my 100 (new) movies in 2008 last night! With Vantage Point, sadly, which wasn't particularly good, and didn't have nearly enough Foxy in it. But still. 100 new movies in 2008!! Yay! Also started watching Mad Men this weekend, which I kind of sort of love a whole lot. It's deliciously nasty, and should tide me over through the week until shows start.
