Veronica's Room, Hyperion Hotel - Thursday Afternoon

Mar 12, 2009 09:24

Veronica was finishing up her last mid-term paper and looking forward to her upcoming spring break when her phone rang.

Sarah
When a mission in Mexico had come across from her handlers, Sarah had a momentary jealous urge to keep it for herself even though the instructions said it would make an excellent test for Veronica.

Oh well. There'd be other missions in Mexico, someday. Right now she was pacing a little in her apartment as she waited for Veronca's phone to pick up.

Veronica
"Veronica Mars," she answered the phone. The number seemed to be a Fandom number, but she didn't recognize it.

Sarah
"Veronica, hello," Sarah said, putting a cheerful energy into her voice. "This is Sarah Walker. How have you been doing?"

Veronica
"Just finished my last mid-term project, so I'm great until finals roll around," Veronica said. "How's everything in Fandom? Any bizarre invasions or random children lately?"

Sarah
"Strange you would say that," Sarah said. "We had these big ugly bird monsters yesterday. We took them out, but couple people got hurt. But other than that, Fandom's Fandom. Your friend Tyler's starting Fight Club again. I'm not sure where he's going with it, but I'm keeping close."

Veronica
"Bird monsters? That's new," Veronica said. She was glad that kind of weirdness didn't spread to the alumni. "I guess you know about the investigation I did of Tyler back in school?"

Sarah
"I don't have your files, but I know who he is," Sarah said with genuine distaste. "Nice of the school to hire him. I don't think he's building an army, but he's a hard one to read."

Veronica
"I heard about him teaching there," Veronica said. "He's probably not the worst teacher they've ever hired, but it's good to know that someone is keeping an eye on him."

Sarah
"He needs it. And now you're making me wonder who the worst teacher is," Sarah said. "I did a little research on most of them, but with the people from different worlds the records get fuzzy."

Veronica
"I couldn't say for sure. I've only heard stories," Veronica said. "But, yeah, I can imagine that research would get difficult. I have access to some interdimensional sources where I am right now, if you need me to look anything up."

Sarah
"Nah, even in interdimensional sources you can only find so much," Sarah said. "Police station here has almost everything."

"Anyhow," she added, glancing at the file on her table, "I didn't call to chat about Durden."

Veronica
"I didn't think so," Veronica said. "What's up?"

She reached for a tablet and a pen in case she needed to take any notes.

Sarah
"My employers are ready to send you out on a test case in the field," Sarah said. "Unless you already had big plans for this weekend."

Veronica
"No, it's the start of my spring break."

She had been thinking about calling Dick... but things were still confusing with them.

Sarah
"Perfect," Sarah said. "Feel like driving down to Tiajuana? There's a hotel we're pretty sure a drug ring tied to Hamas operates out of. We need someone to go down to prove the theory -- just look around, see what you see, get a bug in the manager's office. You'd have a senior agent shadowing you."

Veronica
Veronica didn't want to admit how exciting that sounded. She had been doing so well with the not putting herself in life-threatening situations thing.

"I think I can manage that. Do I need to supply my own equipment?"

Sarah
"If you have things you're comfortable with, go for it, or we can deliver a crate to your apartment," Sarah said. "What do you prefer?"

Veronica
"I have some stuff I can use," Veronica said. "But I wouldn't mind some supplies to play around with and try next time."

Assuming there was a next time.

Sarah
"We'll send a box," Sarah said. "Don't open it in front of people."

A beat. "Do you need a cover, or would your friends buy that you decided to spend your spring break in Mexico?"

Veronica
"I think I can convince my friends that I'm just going to Mexico for a few days," Veronica said. "And I won't."

Sarah
"Perfect," Sarah said, and that was one advantage of being stationed in L.A. "The senior agent will make contact after you check in, but this is your mission. Just don't try to be a hero if things get hairy."

Veronica
Veronica chuckled. "Don't worry. I've learned my lesson about that. When do I need to leave?"

Sarah
"Try to check in Friday afternoon," Sarah answered. "Probably shouldn't take past Sunday afternoon, but we'll cover it if you need to stay until Monday."

Veronica
"Sounds good," Veronica said, glancing at the clock. "I have to run over to campus this afternoon and turn in this paper, but then I'm free so I'll come home and pack and drive down tomorrow morning."

Sarah
"Great!" Sarah exclaimed. "I'll be in touch for the full report Monday, and the dossier and supplies will be on their way soon."

Veronica
"Thanks, Sarah," Veronica said.

She had to admit, this was pretty exciting. She hadn't gotten to do anything this fun with the FBI.

[ooc: Mostly establishy, but can be open to any housemates or anyone who wants to call. Much love and thanks to saveyoulater for the preplay!]
