Marty sits on the couch going over his latest homework from Sociology and watching his favorite TV Show "Vanessa Saturn".
Veronica walks by and spots Marty. She glances at the TV. What is it with people around here and that show? she wonders idly.
"Hey, Marty. I need to know who I should talk to about that fear toxin stuff."
"No Problem, Mars." Marty digs through his school bag and pulls out his notebook and searches through his bag some more as though he's looking for something in particular.
"Damn it. Where did I put that?" he mutters.
Veronica raises an eyebrow. "What did you lose, Blank?"
Marty frowns and starts leafing through his notebook. "My digital audio recorder. I had some of the name I put in there for safekeeping. Huh. Oh well. Here we go."
Marty rips out a piece of papers with a list of names of the affected people from the gassing which includes:
Han Solo
Xander Harris
Chloe Sullivan
Evelyn Carnahan
George Lass
The loudmouth and fat guy outside the kwik stop
Zaphod Beeblebrox
"Is that what you are looking for? Have you made any progress?"
Veronica takes the paper. "Thanks. This is a good place to start. I talked to Rory and she said she didn't see anyone but you, Logan, George & Kitty that night. She's going to ask Logan if he remembers seeing anyone else."
"I really appreciate you doing this Mars. Is there anything I can do?" Marty asks.
"Remember what happened to you that night?" She says with a grin. "It's not a big deal. I don't think you did it and I want to prove it."
"Well that's one person at least," Marty smiles back. "Though you're supposed to be the whole Kenneth Starr role for this investigation. Not that there's an 'official' investigation or anything because that leads to things like detention and campfire singing."
"I do like campfire singing," she muses. "I like to think I'm a pretty good judge of character. And I definitely see myself as more of the Johnny Cochran type. 'If it doesn't fit, you must acquit'," she does a horrible impersonation.
Marty laughs. "What's the phrase I'm thinking of? Something about your day job?"
"Aw, Marty, you wound me," she says, a mock serious tone in her voice. "If you want to play that way, I'll take my toys and go home."
"Awww. C'mon Mars. 'Can't we all just get along?' You know I'm only kidding. I'm glad I have the most expensive/flamboyant interrogator working the case," Marty says with a chuckle.
"Expensive? You mean I'm getting more than just the glory on this one?"
Marty starts digging into his pants pocket. "Yeah, I think I got a quarter here someplace."
Veronica chuckles. "Keep it. You may need to call someone who cares some day and I'd feel horribly guilty if you couldn't." Her tone becomes serious. "Marty, has anyone official questioned you about Kitty?"
"Official?" Marty's face grows a little pale. "Not official, that I know of."
She couldn't help but snort. "Listen, I heard a rumor that there was a new sheriff in town. And, if the rumor is correct, it's the guy who took over as sheriff back in Neptune after Lilly was killed. He's a complete moron and he couldn't investigate his way out of paper bag. If he tries to question you, you need to call me right away, okay?"
Marty raises his eyebrows at the comment. "Really? So you're a lawyer now too? Damn Mars, you are full of surprises."
Veronica smirked. "Trust me on this one, Blank. If Lamb gets his hands on you, he will twist any semblance of evidence to fit whatever crooked theory he is trying to sell. I know how to deal with him." She checked her watch. "I need to get some sleep. I'll let you know if I learn anything earth shattering."
"Please don't use phrases like 'Earth Shattering' around here. It might give someone ideas. Get some sleep Mars."
