..the only thing that's got you distracted from otherwise mostly suckness is a total trainwreck on "The Moment Of Truth". Oh man, Jerry Springer holds a special place in my TV-trash heart, but this was for real (or at least a very good set-up if it wasn't).
As usual for most people that have LJ's, I don't write in this enough, but then again, not enough goes down in my life these days.
- Did get my PT certification last week of January, have had zero action on my online resumes on Monster/CareerBuilder, would be nice to hear back from Springfield YMCA/Planet Fitness. I'm sorta worried I'm hated by Campus Rec for some reason now, I sent Xmas cards and got zero responses, and I didn't even get a call back for a bouncer job in Springfield despite being one of the only guys applying WITH a resume.
- January was a sucky month for poker (about break-even), February was my second-best month ever but last few days in a horrid $2k downswing, pretty much losing every way imaginable (getting looked up on every bluff, running into overpairs, losing AA 12 times in a row, losing overpairs to sets, whiffing check-raises with two pair and someone hitting a straight on the river), just really frustrating stuff. Have a friendly competition with a friend to hit 26k hands this month, otherwise if one of us doesn't do it, we have to do something crazy like play a 24-hour session at $1-$5 Seven Card Stud at Foxwoods or something equally humiliating. Unfortunately, it's the norm that I grind out a ton of hands when I'm stuck, though I'm still doing ok on not-tilting/chasing losses above my means. I'm easily on pace for it, and I might just drop down a level to clear my head and just not care as much (although even $100 buy-in cash games feel like play money to me now, pretty sick). I cash out around $1k-$2k a month, want to save up about $7k before I consider getting my own place, but it's been tough now that I'm paying for my own groceries, car insurance, car repairs ($300 for brake drums last week) and cat ($200 for vet check-up/shots since my father never did crap for him really). So that's kind of a hit, and I probably won't get to take a vacation in the next few months, but that's life. I do need to do something fun for myself soon though, because you should spoil yourself once every few months no matter what your income is or who you are, just to keep sane.
- I've knocked off a decent amount of movies off the top 250 list so far this year. Here they are:
- City Lights (ok, not Chaplin's best)
- Apocalypse Now (thought it was slow/sucked/overrated/Brando overhyped)
- Superbad (hate Jonah Hill, McLovin made the movie for me)
- Hot Fuzz (great last 15 min., saved otherwise somewhat dull movie)
- 3:10 To Yuma (great, loved the soundtrack/supporting cast)
- The Prestige (Bale magnificent as usual)
- There Will Be Blood (Would have been a travesty if DDL didn't get that Oscar, enjoyed the ridiculousness at points)
Have Blade Runner: Final Cut (which took a good 2+ months to get, but of course it's playing at Amherst Cinema now, ugh), and Dial M For Murder up next with No Country on the way next week. Also seen a lot of good Miike films this year. What is it going to take for a solid, original US horror movie to be made this century?
- Kinda neat promotion albeit really not for much at the gym, where you get points per day you go to the gym in March, get matched up with other people bracket-style, whoever has most points gets a college t-shirt of their choice, basketball, and fitpoints (which are sort of like FPPs for the YMCA, that can be redeemed for some useful stuff believe it or not). For me it's more the challenge of going to the Y 28 straight days. Unless I'm deathly sick or won the lottery, I plan on going through with it, and definitely get healthier in an otherwise crappy, middling month (damn Smarch weather).
