Crawtastic!

Yesterday I went to the La. Crawfish Festival in the Lower Ninth with Candace, Leila, nofunangie, Steve, and a bunch of other friends.

True, I cannot eat seafood, but I suspected there would be funnel cake and other fairground goodies to be had. (There were.)

We spent the day eating, riding rides, eating, looking at two-headed snakes, eating, throwing ping pong balls into a pond to win a bunny (no one won), and eating some more.

The day ended rather weirdly. My car got stuck in the mud of the neutral ground where I parked. Candace got behind the wheel while I put the floor mat under a tire to gain purchase, and tried to push the car backwards. This resulted in mud flying everywhere - all over the immense white trash truck in front of us, a car next to us, all over me, and my car looked like it had been fished out of the Mighty Miss herself.

After about 20 minutes of this, the last ten of which Leila was behind us in her car pointing out of the window and laughing her head off, I finally got the car out of the small mud pond I had created by spinning my wheels in the same place.

Driving back to town, I thought, "Hmm, who has a house with a garden and a hose that will reach the street?" because it was difficult to see out of the windshield with the now-smeared mud.

Thankfully, marrus was home and rolled out the hose while she showed off her fabulous house to Candace. She also made us spiced rum and ginger beer cocktails.

Y'knowwwww, I said to her, we passed a number of "Five Star" car washes in the Arabi coming back, but it was just a hose and a hoover where you have to do all the work. None of them came with cocktails. You are a "Six Star" car wash, and I'm gonna tell all my friends!"

I broke in a new video camera since my old one is on the fritz. This one records directly to mini DVD discs, which seemed pretty cool until I got home and realized what a hellacious mess it is to dump the camera into the computer. Specifically, you can't! It requires "finalizing" the disc, ripping it using sneaky software and shoving it into iMovie through the back door. Very time consuming and annoying.

But at least it works.

Here's our day yesterday, from my hour of footage edited down to about ten minutes. I liked the bumper cars the best. Candace drove while I filmed, sitting next to her.

Since I'm mucking about with the new video camera trying to learn its features and bugs, I recorded a few more piano songs and am in the process right now of making more little music videos which can be found on my youtube page.
