Mending
broken hearts (7/10)
During
the whole month of August, while every one tries and avoid going out
during day time, hiding in their offices or houses with ventilators
on, poor boys working on the show are all busy. Dongwoon and Doojoon
meet every day and about as often with M. Park who’s obsessed with
every little detail. Kikwang and Hyunseung keep on meeting before the
theater at 5:30 pm and the rehearsals last all night, until all the
dancers are way too tired to go on and they all say goodnight usually
at five in the morning. Junhyung has to attend rehearsals but he
always find a way to avoid them, saying he has to work on outfits was
easy. He always pretends he forgot something at home, or need to go
and check something far far away from the theater. Hyunseung doesn’t
mind though, he doesn’t really have time to neither, but he’s not
upset because Junhyung always has to come back anyways.
They
all become close friends as time passes by. Hyunseung and Doojoon
never talked about anything openly but somehow Hyunseung knows that
the other knows about Junhyung, and even if Hyunseung doesn’t
really understand his motivations, Doojoon seems to willingly help
him as often as he can. They meet quite often to grab some food or
have a drink together during days in between rehearsals and Junhyung
comes each time but he often brings Yoseob as a support. The funny
thing is: it seems that Hyunseung, Kikwang and Yoseob have become
best friends, more to Junhyung’ s despair who just lost his ally.
Most of time, Yoseob laughs and
chats happily with Kikwang, leaving him alone with Hyunseung, since
Dongwoon and Doojoon are really busy during days. They’re not
awkward anymore though. Junhyung laughs again, and smiles, true one,
when they’re together, and no matter how hard Hyunseung tries and
hide his happiness, he just can’t help but to beam each time he
sees the younger and his heart’s beating faster.
Today
is no exception as Hyunseung meets Kikwang at 5:30. The difference
is, this time Doojoon and Dongwoon came to attend rehearsals as well
and the four of them step into the theater hurriedly to escape the
hot and moist air outside. The two musicians sit in the room facing
the stage and watch as Hyunseung directs dancers. At first, Kikwang
barely stays focused and he can’t stop glancing at Dongwoon with
his silly smile while he’s dancing, but soon, Hyunseung scolds him
and the younger boy forgets about everything in the room that is not
Hyunseung, music and steps he has to learn. Doojoon watches every
move Hyunseung makes, as it perfectly fits with the music, and he’s
impressed. The man is the best dancer he’s ever seen, he’s sure
of that.
Things
are a bit different for Dongwoon. He’s as impressed as his hyung by
Hyunseung’ s performance, really, but his eyes constantly fall back
on Kikwang. No matter how good Hyunseung is, Kikwang’ s performance
is the one sending shivers to his spine. He barely notices that
everything around him is forgotten as he watches the shorter male
move along with the music. Suddenly, Dongwoon can’t take it any
longer. He gulps painfully as his lover bits on his lip and that’s
it. It’s way too hot in this room, and Kikwang is way too hot for
him to handle right now. He mumbles something to Doojoon’ s
attention and makes his way to the bathroom making sure not to look
at Kikwang. He stays there for a while, splashing cold water on his
face and then heads back. Instead of joining Doojoon, he steps on
stage and sits down behind the piano, turning his back on dancers,
his eyes far away from his lover’ s body. He has to focus on
something, and starts playing random songs.
‘Seungie-ah!
I’m so tired!’ Kikwang whines and collapses on the floor.
‘Okay,
that’s it everyone thank you’ Hyunseung chuckles before sitting
next to the poor boy who’s panting heavily. All the dancers
dispersed, some leaving the stage and settling on the cool floor
backstage, some running to bathrooms and literally putting their
heads under the flow of cold water. All in all, as soon as Hyunseung
gave them the permission, everyone was gone.
‘The
choreography’s good Hyunseungie’ Doojoon speaks as he is sitting
in the first row of seats and he sends a bottle of water rolling
towards Kikwang.
‘Thanks.
I hope it’ll be fine’ Hyunseung answers grabbing the bottle and
handles it to Kikwang who seems unable to move for now.
‘Don’t
worry, it’s great’ Dongwoon takes part in the conversation. ‘Oh,
and I thought about what you told me the other day’ He is still
sitting behind his piano and has been playing for himself some songs
he presented to M. Park while the others were dancing.
‘Hm?’
‘About
the tango-like thing’ Dongwoon explains.
‘Oh!
Really? Did you find anything?’ Hyunseung stands up excitedly and
joins Dongwoon around the piano, he settles his elbows on it, resting
his head on one hand.
‘I
called M. Park and asked him, as I told you, he found it was a great
idea. So, I worked on a piece, just with my piano and I think it
could be nice’ Dongwoon states.
‘Didn’t
you tell me about a violin or something?’ Doojoon asks as he lifts
himself up on stage before joining the two men.
‘Oh
yeah, that’ d be great’ Dongwoon nods to him as Doojoon stands on
Hyunseung’ s right.
‘Are
we going to perform a tango, Seungie?’ Kikwang asks and he manages
to stand up and wiped some sweat from his forehead.
‘Well,
it was just an idea, but I’m curious about what Dongwoon prepared’
he smiles towards the younger.
‘Woonie
only does great things’ the lead dancer states as he collapses on
the bench next to his lover and rests his head on the taller man’ s
shoulder. Hyunseung and Doojoon chuckled and Dongwoon just smiled. He
puts his music score in front of him and starts to play. They all
listen for a while before Hyunseung steps away from the piano and
grabs Kikwang’ s hand to make him stand.
‘Come
on, I’ll show you the steps’ he says. Kikwang pouts as he really
doesn’t want to dance but obeys anyway.
Soon,
Kikwang understands Hyunseung isn’t really serious about showing
the steps as he kneels in front of him and takes his hand lover style
before making him spin around not so... tango like. Doojoon is
laughing at the scene seeing Kikwang enjoys the dance and plays
along. They do not seem so tired any more as the room is filled with
laughter. Kikwang pains to catch his breath and says.
‘It’s
not a tango, you know that almighty professor?’ Hyunseung burst out
into laughter and Doojoon almost knocks his head on the piano while
laughing. They don’t even know why they’re laughing but it’s
late, and hot and they’re tired and they really don’t care.
‘I
know, but you already know tango steps, don’t you?’ Hyunseung
says as he calms down.
‘You’re
right’ Kikwang flashes his silly smile.
‘If
you want it to be part of the show you should practice seriously
though’ Dongwoon warns ‘You know how M. Park is about the whole
thing’
Doojoon
regains his calm as well and nods at Dongwoon’ s words.
‘You’re
right’ Hyunseung says turning back and looks at the empty stage,
save for the four of them ‘but all my dancers are gone’ he
complains with a pout.
Hyunseung
just finished his sentence when Junhyung steps on stage, carrying a
box he’s planning to leave backstage.
‘Hey
guys’ he greets them smiling.
‘Junhyung-ah!
You’re late!’ Kikwang shouts.
‘Late?
Why?’ the other asked frowning.
‘M.
Park said you had to attend dance rehearsals but you’re never
there’ Kikwang whines.
‘Hm,
I have things to do on my own, that is why’ Junhyung shrugs.
Hyunseung
is back next to Doojoon and the older elbows him on the ribs.
‘Since
you’re lacking dancers, why don’t you use people who’s here?’
he says smiling and he uses his head to point at Junhyung. Hyunseung
smiles back knowingly. Junhyung notices their looks.
‘What?
No wait. I gotta go and drop this-’
‘Oh
no, you’re not going anywhere’ Hyunseung says as he grabs his
wrist ‘You’re as responsible as we are if the show fails’ an
evil smile is plastered on his face.
‘So
am I supposed to dance with myself?’ air headed Kikwang asks.
Doojoon can’t help but smack him on the back of his sometimes so
empty head.
‘Of
course you’re not’ he chuckles ‘Dongwoon-ah stand up, I’ll
play’ he says to the youngest.
‘Oh,
Woonie’ s dancing with me’ he cheers and pulls his arms around
his lover’s waist.
They
can’t say it out loud but Junhyung and Dongwoon are as
uncomfortable as Hyunseung and Kikwang are happy about this.
Unconsciously they look at each other for support and Dongwoon smiles
uneasily, his eyes saying something like ‘keep breathing, it’s
the key’.
Junhyung
feels cold sweat pearling down his back as Hyunseung puts his arm
around him. Doojoon looks at them, then at Dongwoon and Kikwang and
giggles. Sometimes he just feels so proud of himself. He shakes his
head still smiling and starts to play.
Hyunseung
and Kikwang are great enough dancers to lead without thinking about
it. They both have the same idea in mind, tango doesn’t need to be
thought about, you just have to feel it, not that the thinking part
would have even been possible with those partners in their hands
anyway. The leaders are steady, moves sharp yet smooth. Their hands
brushing against their partners’ waists. Eyes looking into eyes as
hands slowly run on backs. Faces inches apart and the followers both
feel their breaths caught in their throats. Hyunseung’ s humid hair
falls before his eyes and Junhyung’ s heart skips a beat. According
to the choreography, the dancer pushes their bodies closer, his
breath tickles the other’ s neck, Junhyung shivers. Hyunseung feels
Junhyung’ s body is shaking and all he can do is smirk. It’s not
really a smirk, let’s say its crappy little brother.
Dongwoon
is biting hard on his lip as sweaty Kikwang presses his body against
his. The shorter’ s face lights up as he notices it. He giggles and
leans closer.
‘Woonie
are you alright?’ he whispers and Dongwoon almost rips his lip off
in order to repress his moan when his lover’s mouth touches his
ear.
‘Seriously,
this man is such a fucking tease’ is what both Junhyung and
Dongwoon think.
Suddenly,
music stops. Doojoon turns back to face them and it takes all his
might not to laugh. Dongwoon’ s lower lip is tainted with some
blood as the young male seems to be shaking in anger or frustration,
maybe both, while Kikwang is still whispering into his ear, hands
traveling on his lover’s body. He stops in his track when he
realizes Doojoon stopped playing and turns back to face the pianist.
He blushes. Dongwoon can’t handle it anymore and he groans before
heading backstage. Kikwang runs after him pleading.
‘Woonie!
Wait! I’ll make it up to you I swear!’ and Dongwoon stops until
Kikwang joins him and they both disappear in the corridor, Dongwoon
leading Kikwang by his wrist.
Doojoon
looks at the two other men then. They were both slightly panting,
still holding onto each other. Junhyung seems frozen, as if he didn’t
have any notion of place or time anymore. Hyunseung shakes his head,
in one smooth movement to push his hair out of his eyes and the other
blinks.
‘gottago’
is what Hyunseung can decipher from Junhyung’ s mumble before the
younger turns around and grabs his box, exiting the stage. Hyunseung
steps closer to the piano, facing Doojoon. He smiles widely.
‘I
think you just won’ Doojoon says with a wink and Hyunseung
collapses next to him, suddenly weak in the knees. He was unable to
speak, still trying and calm down his racing heart from the sudden
proximity with Junhyung.
‘I
need to go, are you okay?’ Doojoon asks eying the other. Hyunseung
nods as he rubs the back of his neck. The older stands up and steps
away from the piano when Hyunseung catches his sleeve and stands up
as well. He rushes on Doojoon and hugs him.
‘I
don’t know why you’re doing this, but thank you’ the younger
man says. Doojoon smiles warmly, he hugs Hyunseung back.
‘Dunno,
I wish mending broken hearts was my full time job’ he answers.
Hyunseung frowns as if he saw Doojoon for the first time.
‘Is
anybody taking care of yours?’ he asks but the only answer he gets
is a pat on the head.
‘See
you tomorrow Seung’ and with that, Doojoon leaves.
Doojoon
is on the street breathing the already hot morning air, he stuffs his
hands in his pockets and heads home. As he turns right and
disappears, a smaller body heads to the theater. Yoseob couldn’t
sleep that night so he had taken an early train and decided to visit
his friends. He enters the building and looks for them. Soon he bumps
into Junhyung who was still carrying his huge box from one place to
another. Actually, he isn’t thinking, he doesn’t even remember
what he was supposed to do with it. Yoseob giggles.
‘Junnie
what are you doing?’ the box falls on the floor.
‘I’m
er...’ He shakes his head and releases a sigh.
‘What?’
the little blond arches a brow.
‘I’m
gonna kill Yoon Doojoon one day’ he says and he tells Yoseob what
happened before he came in. When he finishes and looks at his friend,
Yoseob giggles.
‘I
think this Yoon Doojoon is a clever guy actually’ he says earning
him a slap on the arm.
‘That’s
because you haven’t met him yet’ Junhyung answers grumpily. So
Yoseob won’t ever be on his side again?
Yoseob
chuckles and pulls his friend by the arm.
‘Whatever
you say Junnie, come on let’s go eat something I’m starving’
and they both leave the building in the early morning.
A/N :
Sorry it took me a little bit longer than expected ^^' I hope you
like it because I'm still sick and I'm not sure of anything right
now... :(
I don't know if it turned out ok but I had this
dance scene in my head since I started writing and I kinda liked the
idea.
