Mending
broken hearts (4/10)
The month of June had
already started when Junhyung got Mr. Park’ s phone call. He has to
meet him at one in the afternoon. Junhyung gets ready and decides to
stop by Yoseob’ s place first. He throws his bag pack on his
shoulder, grabs his phone and keys and calls Alf out of the room. Alf
is Junhyung’ s young German shepherd dog. Why Alf? Well, no one
will never know, not even Junhyung himself. The said dog runs happily
towards its master, tail waving with excitement. Junhyung locks the
front door and both man and dog go down the street.
About half an hour later
Junhyung and Yoseob are chatting in the latter’ s living room, Alf
lays at Yoseob’ s feet.
‘Nervous?’ Yoseob
asks eying his friend above his glass.
‘Hm’ Junhyung looks
up as well. ‘More excited actually’
‘You’re right,
there’s no need for you to worry, he already gave you the job.
Everything will be fine’ Yoseob adds.
Junhyung nods before
emptying his own glass.
‘I should get going
now’ he states.
‘But you’ve got
plenty of time, it’s only ten’ the younger pouts and Junhyung
chuckles.
‘Yes, but I don’t
really know the place. I’ll explore the neighborhood if I’m
early’ Junhyung explains and gets on his feet. Yoseob and Alf
follow immediately. They reach the door that Junhyung opens before
turning back to his friend.
‘Well, wish me luck
then’
‘Haha, I thought you
didn’t need it’ Yoseob playfully answers arching a brow.
‘Yeah, whatever’
Junhyung takes a step back. ‘You take care of him, he’ll probably
goof around’ he warns.
‘Don’t you say that,
he’s kind to me’ Yoseob replies.
‘I know. I was talking
to Alf actually’ Junhyung adds with a devilish smile on his face.
‘Yah! Go make some
money already!’ Yoseob kicks him out of the apartment. Junhyung
laughs and Yoseob sticks his tongue out before closing the door at
the other’ s face. Junhyung is still smiling when he arrives at the
train station. He studies the map he printed earlier this morning
after sitting by a window and sighs. He’s ready to meet with
destiny, he has a good feeling about this.

As Hyunseung wakes up, he
feels slightly drunk. He isn’t though. Or maybe he is but only with
expectations, excitement, hopes. Mr Park came last night in the
practice room, he told him about the meeting today at one in his
office. His routine is left unchanged. He wakes up, dresses up and
leaves in a hurry grabbing something to eat on his way. Hyunseung
only has one class this morning, nonetheless he remains in his
dancing room until the clock reads 12:20pm. Then he decides to go out
and eat something before heading to Mr Park’ s office. He sits down
on a bench in the park near to the school, and takes a mouthful of
his sandwich. His mind suddenly slips to something he had tried to
avoid for days.
A while ago he went where
Junhyung worked when they used to live together. What Hyunseung
didn’t expect was that Junhyung quit his job. He went to his
apartment, then his work place, but the younger was nowhere to be
found. No matter how hard he tried to hide it and keep it locked
somewhere deep in his brain, Hyunseung was upset. He is upset.
There’s no way he’d give up but hell, Junhyung seems to have put
great efforts in hiding himself from him. At this, Hyunseung smiles
bitterly. Or maybe Junhyung just forgot about him and moved on. After
all, he’s not necessarily missing him, right? He must have felt as
he was thrown away, and he was, kind of. Hyunseung shakes his head.
Junhyung probably doesn’t think about him anymore and there is no
point for him to hide from someone who ran away from him. He glances
at his watch and gets on his feet. It’s nearly one and he dreads to
be late as he heads to the building.
Hyunseung makes his way
to Mr Park’ s office and the door is already closed, which usually
isn’t. Great. He’s late. He knocks softly and waits for a ‘come
in’ before stepping into the room.
‘Ah, Hyunseung. Great,
you were the only missing’ Mr Park says with a warm smile. He isn’t
mad at him for being late which is a good thing, Hyunseung thinks. He
bows to him and turns to face the other people in the room. When he
expected three or four there are actually about twenty men and women
in the room. That’s when he realizes how huge this project is. Mr
Park gestures him to sit down and he settles in the available chair.
‘Well, now that
everyone’s here, I’d like to introduce each of you first’ Mr
Park says. Immediately starting as he tells someone’s name and job,
the said man stands up and bows to the other, but Hyunseung’ s
oblivious to the whole scene for his eyes lay on something, no,
someone unexpected. At the far left corner of the table is a face
Hyunseung hadn’t seen in a while. His heart is racing, he seems to
have forgotten how to breathe. He can’t move and his eyes act on
their own will, staring into the other’ s. He had never thought it
would be that breathtaking to see Junhyung again. And judging by the
look on the younger’ s face, neither had he. Junhyung’ s eyes are
wide in surprise. He seems frozen, his only actual movement comes
from a muscle in his jaw that pulses in and out as if it were
following a metronome. They stare at each other, the world totally
forgotten. They don’t hear nor see anything except each other.
Somehow, the room seems a lot hotter than earlier and they both
slightly sweat with discomfort. Before they can realize it, all heads
turn to Junhyung as it’s his turn for speaking. He presses a
shaking hand against the wooden table and slowly stands up as if he
isn’t sure that his legs can support his weight. It takes all his
might not to seem weak or weird. He finally drops his look away from
Hyunseung.
‘I’m Yong Junhyung,
stylist’ he manages to say hoping his voice isn’t as shaking as
he feels he is.
Hyunseung for his part is
recovering from his previous condition. He straightens on his chair
but he can’t get his eyes off of Junhyung whereas the other makes a
point not to look anywhere but at his hands on his lap. Hyunseung
just observes, contemplates, trying to read the other’ s feelings
on his face. A stylist? Since when is he a stylist? It seems like in
two years, Junhyung made his way through as well. And then Hyunseung
understands. That’s why he moved out, and that’s why he quit his
job. He’s throwing himself into a challenge. He’s taking a
once-in-a-lifetime chance. Now Hyunseung feels odd. Something inside
him says ‘See? He’s doing great without you’ but the voice is
different from what he expected, and maybe he should be hurt, or
scared but instead he’s rather happy that the younger didn’t
spend those two years crying over him. There’s a selfish feeling of
relief in his heart seeing the other ruling his life, and an ignored
pain seeing his lover doing great without him, but that he won’t
admit. He smiles though. He has reasons to. He has looked for him for
weeks and now Junhyung stands in the same room. He’ll finally have
his talk with him. Now all he wishes is that the meeting won’t last
long. Just as the thought passes his mind, Mr Park turns to him. He
stands up and smiles.
‘Jang Hyunseung,
choreographer’
His eyes not once leaving
Junhyung who barely lifts his head up as he hears Hyunseung’ s
name. Somehow Junhyung feels betrayed. Today he had great
expectations. It may seem silly but he had hoped that he would meet
his “destiny”. He expected to feel different, to feel proud,
finally taking that path. But now, all he wants is to get the hell
out of here. He doesn’t want to see Hyunseung, he doesn’t want to
talk to him. He’s not ready. He should have known something like
that would happen when Hyunseung came to Yoseob’ s. After two
years, things couldn’t have stopped here, right? Junhyung doesn’t
know but he’s frowning. He just registered what Hyunseung said.
Choreographer. He didn’t even know that Hyunseung could dance. If
he were alone, he’d have sport a bitter smile right now. As if he
truly knew the other anyway... But he’s in the office with nineteen
others and Hyunseung and he just stays still. Mr Park is now
addressing to two men on Hyunseung’ s right. Something about music
for the show. The one who seems to be the oldest nods at Mr Park. He
sports dark spiky hair and a serious look. Then the other says
something about using a piano. As he hears his voice, Junhyung
wonders if he’s really younger than the other. It’s deep and
calm. Only his childish smile contrasts with his manly features. Mr
Park seems to agree and he then talks about rehearsals. Junhyung
tries to process what he says into his mind but he just can’t
focus. For those who watch The Simpsons show, he feels like he’s
got that stupid little monkey with cymbals inside his head. Or more
like the monkey’s screaming “Oh fuck, Hyunseung’ s here!”
again and again. That doesn’t help. At all. And then that’s it.
Mr Park says something like ‘Alright, everybody thank you for
coming, let’s meet again next week when I get the final schedule’
and the man at Junhyung’ s left stands and heads to the door.
Junhyung immediately follows without thinking, he really needs to get
out.
Hyunseung stands as well
and catches a glimpse at Junhyung’ s attempt to leave. He makes his
way towards the door when a hand presses on his right shoulder and he
has to turn around.
‘Hyunseung, there’s
someone I want you to meet’ Mr Park says and smiles.
‘Not now!’ is what he
wanna say, ‘Oh really? Who is it?’ are words that come out his
mouth instead and he smiles back politely. He lets his boss lead him
towards a young man, the one with spiky hair, who greets him.
Hyunseung bows to the supposedly older and listen to the conversation
more than actually being part of it. He really needs to go after
Junhyung. His eyes on the door he watches as Junhyung disappears in
the corridor. ‘Do something’ his brain shouts.
‘Em... Mr Park I’m
really sorry but I need to get going now’ he tries.
‘Oh well, I don’t
want to stop you then’ his boss replies but his hand’s still on
Hyunseung’ s shoulder and the young man is quite uncomfortable with
the idea of leaving when his boss obviously doesn’t want him to. He
looks from Mr Park to the other whose name remains a mystery to our
mind-totally-focused-on-Junhyung-right-now Hyunseung.
‘I’m sorry, is there
something you want to ask me?’ and the man just smiles.
‘No. It’s okay. We’ll
see each other soon enough, you should go’ he imperceptibly winks
and Mr Park lets go of his shoulder. Okay what was that? ‘Oh go to
hell with your silly questions! You better run!’ his brain shouts
again. So Hyunseung does. He runs down the hall, his eyes are
scanning every face around him. He exits the building and he spots
him. He starts to chase after him but suddenly he freezes. A dog is
running in circles around Junhyung and... Yoseob? Didn’t the little
blond say that he didn’t know him? Hyunseung’ s eyes widen as the
smaller boy bounces happily and throws his arms around Junhyung.
Definitely not what a stranger would do. As he watches the scene from
afar his heart aches.
>> Junhyung exits
the office as fast as he can and runs down the stairs. He expects
Hyunseung to chase after him. After all he came at his old place,
he’s obviously looking for him. As he speeds up to the train
station he hears a bark, somehow familiar. He turns his head and he
eyes fall on Yoseob walking towards him, Alf running before him.
‘What are you doing
here?’ he asks when Yoseob reaches him and gives him a hug.
‘Couldn’t wait I
guess, plus I thought you’d be bored alone on your way back’ he
gives his familiar childish smile. Junhyung can’t do nothing but
smile back at his friend. ‘So, how did it go?’ Yoseob asks.
‘Well, you won’t
believe it-’ Junhyung starts but Yoseob cuts him right away.
‘Oh Junhyung’ he
pauses ‘don’t look back but Hyunseung is there’ he adds in a
whisper as if he doesn’t want Hyunseung to hear him, which won’t
happen since he’s too far from them anyway.
‘Yeah’ Junhyung looks
down ‘I know that’
Yoseob leans closer. He
can see concern on his face. Did he speak to him? Is Junhyung okay?
He doesn’t look like it.
‘Junnie are you okay?’
‘I just...’ he looks
in Yoseob’ s eyes and now the younger can tell how confused
Junhyung is. ‘I didn’t expect this’
Yoseob pats his shoulder
warmly.
‘I don’t know if I
should go and talk to him’ he shakes his head ‘I don’t feel
like it right now’
‘You don’t have to’
Yoseob says confidently. As the other remains silent he adds ‘Junnie,
don’t do this to yourself. He’s the one who ran away’ his hand
is now trailing down Junhyung’ s arm. ‘You did no wrong’ he
adds and his fingers curl around the other’ s hand. His grip on
Junhyung’ s hand is tight and he waits for the other to say
something.
‘You’re right’
Junhyung manages to say and he squeezes the hand inside his. ‘Let’s
go’ he says with a small smile and with that both of them head back
home, Alf walking along with them.
Hyunseung watches them
walk away. It feels like he’s never been so close to Junhyung but
so far at the same time.
A/N: This is it! Junhyung
and Hyunseung in the same room! But, still... not together -___-’’
I’m sorry ><
but things can’t be that easy...
Plus, this chapter turned
out... weird. Idk why.
I think you’ve already
figured it out but the >> is a change of focus from Hyunseung’
s to Junhyung’ s.
PS: Please! Don't be mad at Yoseob! :( I swear he is a good kid! YANG YOSEOB IS GOOD! You'll see!
