I went out at noon to check on the livestock and to close the big barn doors--the rain had just started--and found poor Kodiak the llama wedged in between the Farmall and a wall.
Poor big llama. Llamas have the unfortunate tendency to not back up well. It's like they simply can't organize those silly legs to work in an organized fashion in that direction. Kodiak had pushed aside the barriers we keep in front of the barn (for this exact reason) when the doors are open to air things out, and headed on in. And kept going until he could go no further and was well wedged in. Good boy Kodi stayed put instead of struggling and hurting himself, probably waiting for me to come find him. His partner Kimchi was whining in the llama stall because Kodi was out of her line of vision.
I climbed over the tractor, under Kodiak (praying all the while that he could hold his kicking instinct in check) and between his front legs until I was in front of him with my back to the barn wall. I moved each of his front legs backward one at a time, and the hind feet followed suit on their own, thank goodness. Once I had the boy parallel to a stall door I swung it open and he turned into the opening. Good boy, Kodiak!
No one got hurt, and now I know I have to put a much sturdier barrier gate in front of the barn.
Silly llama.
