Do the Math

On the one hand, I am racing to prepare in under two weeks to teach a class that is only tangentially in my subject area using a book I haven't read and assignments that I don't know if I have to create or not. Some questions I have are on the level of "Do we hold class on President's Day?" Others are more akin to "What in the name of all that is ( Read more... )

I frequently tell myself that five years of teaching middle school Latin means I can present basically anything, to basically anyone, on almost no notice. It's a nice well of self-confidence.

Present, I can do. I whipped up a demo lesson in a couple hours. It's the planning in advance and writing out the syllabus that's got me stymied. I'm working off a sample syllabus, but some things on it, I just don't know what or where they are.

It's like anything else. The first year? You just kinda wing it. But know that you have exceptional talent and instinct for winging it, so it will be fine.

Pretty much...and the more of the text book I read and explore, the more I realize that a lot of it maps onto instruction I've already done. Plus...fewer papers to grade!
