The Hobbit is a really good book. And much easier/less airy with fewer epic odes to the way the wind cut through the grass and encouraged the crickets bordering the edge of Mordor to chirp with a certain vivacity reminiscent of the soft, luminescent barmaid back in the Shire. "Oh, if only we were back in the Shire," thought Sam, "far away from these cursèd crickets thrusting my memory across these far lands and away from my one true love, Mr. Frodo...oh yes, sweet, sweet Mr. Frodo...your hair may not be curly like the sea or red like Firebrush Flowers, but how you look at me with those sea-green eyes, gazing not at me, but past me, through me, beyond the horizon. How I long to be with you there, Mr. Frodo, making our way to the ends of Middle Earth, carried away by this voluptuous breeze."

Oh also, I will join you! I have been looking for something to kick me into gear. I've read two so far:

Giovanni's Room - James Baldwin
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle - Haruki Murakami

(I also read Howl by Allen Ginsberg for the first time ever...)

Should we keep each other accountable or something? How do we make sure we are keeping up?

The Hobbit was all I could manage and I think it's only because I was trapped with an audiobook on a road trip.
