Today I spent the day flying. I flew west until Vancouver in a B.767, then Northeast in a Dash 8. Weather conditions, gravity, turbulance, altitude, and the watching the clouds and ground held my interest much more than the notion of watching M. and Mme. Smith. Angelina Jolie caught my eye long before she was this famous. In "Gia" and "Playing By Heart" she seduced me; I can't help but think that now she looks faux and shrimpy. And old.
Terminal 1 at Pearson was noteworthy. I'm at the airport a fair amount. It screams institutional, cheap, mall, and various other upsetting things. But I live a humble life and tend to fly on that discount airline tip. Air Canada was my carrier West, and Terminal One made my jaw drop. Also, Air Canada in general made me feel as though I was engaging in something, rather than trying my hardest to have it all over with. I love flying so much too, it's a matter of time until I will learn to.
Flying into the Okanagan Valley is too much. It looks like the picture on the right, except the water is brighter than the trees. The trees are still about as bright as this picture. And the picture doesnt give you enough of an impression of the mountains surrounding you.
My grandparents and the locals are so West. Everyone is so straightforward and self-interested and subtlely different. Things seem pro-business, less legislated, a little more American. It's subtle though. And it could be the age of this area rather than "the West." But it's a bit more my style in some of these ways.
Here's a dream, let's get lots of money and I'll learn to fly and we'll get a vacation home in the mountains, and fly around. Stimulating activity, and I can write books or movies or shows from out there.
Other points of interest today:
- local wine, world classsss
- my background, as far as i knew: 80-90% British (Touch of Scottish). 5-12% Swedish. ~5% Irish.
- in reality: 50% British (Touch of Scottish). 40% Swedish (Touch of Norwegian). 10% Irish. This is a big deal to me. I already went pretty hard into Reachback UK 2001, with more travel plans in my head. I've always wanted to visit Northern Europe, but now I'm serious about some Reachback Scandinvaia before 2010.
- It's weird how affected I am by this "news" i.e. anecdotal family discussion. I want my mom to get citizenshippppp. for meeeee.
