So. Am I the only person who doesn't have a "stake" in immigration policy that is annoyed by this? I think immigration is great! I think that if someone wants to move to the US and be a productive member of society that's wonderful and I welcome them. I live in a town with a high population of Arab-Americans and Latinos. I love the diversity, it's kinda cool, reminds you that you do live in the US. BUT, do it legally. I'm glad that you want to work and prove that you can be productive within society...but do it the right way. Dont cheat those people that you left behind back in your native country by doing it illegally. It's not fair to them and it marks you but certain political groups as being a security hazard and they'll treat you worse for it.
AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE dont just come here to have a baby to get on Medicare and Medicaid which is paid for by the taxes I pay as a legal worker! I don't get to use these social programs and I've actually sunk tens of thousands of my own money to keep these programs alive. That's not fair and it makes other legal immigrants and natural born citizens mad at you.
We'll take your poor, your weak, your helpless, but do it the right way. If it's important to you, it's worth the wait!
