I am finding As Meat Loves Salt quite good. Maria McCann succeeds brilliantly in immersing me into the 17th Century. And what a bold decision to tell the story from the 1st person POV of a really nasty (at times) dude. So far he's done murder and rape (well technically it wasn't rape in that era as there was no such thing as spousal rape--a man was entitled to do his wife whether she consented or not.) I'm a little over 100 pages in and there is not even a hint of homosexuality, so I have yet to see how this qualifies as gay fiction.
