I'm currently reading a real snoozer

Having spent so much time reading small-press gay fiction, books by authors I know and such, I decided to try something different so I'm reading a recent mainstream fiction book (gay-themed) set in the political arena of Washington D.C. in the 1950s. I'm only halfway though it and I'm struggling to keep reading. It is so dry and boring. Yes it is deeply submerged into the reality of the times, but it is just so mundane! I long for more character development and much less of a history lesson. I'll finish the book if it kills me because if I purchase a book and start reading it I always finish it. Sometimes I really think the small presses have a better feel for entertainment that the big guns do.
