It took me three tries to qualify for this week's Sunday $1000 tournament instead of just one, but I made it. (Each attempt costs an equivalent of $0.20 in bonus money, to win an entry worth a bit more than $10--- the overlay is huge.) I was the short stack after two steals in a row got called by lone aces in the BB. The blinds were at a size where pushing with almost any two was necessary. But, I doubled up with a J9 vs. Q2 that hit a straight. With three players left, of about equal stack size, the SB minraised and I called with T8, a no-brainer. The flop was 79T, so when the SB bet a modest amount I raised all-in and he showed 55. (SB did not adjust well to the structure and shorthanded play.) That put me in good position to take on the former chip leader (about 4000 to 2000, 300/600 blinds, 50 antes) and after a couple folded hands I got AA in the SB. I completed (a minraise or even a typical push might have been better), BB minraised, I pushed and she called. She had A8 and MHIG to win.

The structure at GamesGrid really favors good short-stack play.
