Forget generators--buy a Prius!

One thing folks in the Houston area are thinking about a lot these days is getting a generator to prepare for the next hurricane. Since the electrical service for Brokedown Palace is going to all be new, we're adding a disconnect switch and generator connection.

There are problems with generators, however. They're noisy, they produce a lot of carbon monoxide and other pollutants, and they use a lot of fuel--fuel that has to be purchased and stored safely. In times of emergency, such as after a hurricane, fuel can be in short supply. And since hurricanes happen in the summer, when it's generally really hot in Houston, and most generators are not nearly powerful enough to run a central air conditioning system, the noise and pollution can be a problem since the windows are all open.

That's why this article is so interesting. It turns out you can be kind to the environment and be better prepared for power outages by buying a hybrid!
