Good things:

Ahi tuna cooked over our new grill.  I don't like canned tuna, or tuna in oil, or tuna in most other forms, so this surprised me.  Ahi steaks topped with a relish of olives and sun-dried tomatoes?  Oh yeah.

Cheap frozen pizza cooked on said grill.  "Wood-fired" pizza?  You'd better believe it.

When I was growing up in California, we had a tangerine tree in the front yard.  So I grew up with a plentiful supply of tree-ripe, fresh tangerines (and peaches, tomatoes, corn, artichokes, etc, etc).  The tangerines were too ugly for the supermarket but were they ever delicious.

I'm a happy omnivore, but I draw the line at some categories of critter.

1) Toxic.  Cats count as toxic.

2) Endangered species.

3) Close genetic relatives of humans.  See also "toxic," above.

4) Smarter than my army of semi-domesticated backyard squirrels, which is to say, pretty alarmingly smart.

On Thursday, I had a chicken sandwich and some fries for dinner.  Great sandwich, great shake, and the little matchstick fries were kinda cold and tough.  But really, it was a pretty impressive sandwich for a fast-food joint-- good chicken, very nice bun, fresh guacamole.  I mean, real little morsels of minced avocado.  And it was a sensible ( Read more... )

Of all the places to spend the first weekend in January, Sandusky (OH) is not the place I'd pick.  Even on an unseasonably mild day, this stretch of Milan Road is nauseating, a collection of dreary chain motels punctuated by tattoo parlors and naughty lingerie shops.  In context, the lingerie shops are probably a bright spot in the boredom.

So, my most excellent spouse gave me a coupon for Prairie Farms milk.  Specifically, weirdo flavored milk like Pumpkin Spice and Red Velvet.  I do like my bizarroland junk food, so I went out searching for a carton of the stuff.  I haven't found any yet-- not at Kroger, not at Meijer, and definitely not at CVS.
