Still liking Dragon Quest IX. Took it to Maker Faire last weekend hoping to get some "guests" at the inn, but nobody joined. Sniffle. Hey, I live in Michigan-- it's not like I can just travel the subway in cars filled with wired-up people playing videogames. Public transit barely exists here, and the people on it are not too likely to be playing DQIX.

So, a carnival came to town for the weekend. I've been making deep-fried Milky Way bars using pancake batter for years, but I could NOT resist the chance to try a "professionally made" deep-fried candy bar. Well, it looked just like a corn dog on a stick (I always use the small candy bars so they fry up like little pillows), and there was a little raw batter right around the melted chocolate, and it was coated in a very messy mixture of chocolate syrup and powdered sugar (gilding the lily, man). But I ate it and it was gooey and melty and tasty and I don't regret it.
I will add that I walked to the carnival and back. It mitigates things ever so slightly.

OK. I seem to have come to terms with FE12 to the extent that I am beginning to write 'fic based explicitly on it.
1) "Lucky Horseshoes," some army life vignettes starring Norne and her friends. ETA: first chapter uploaded 8/7/10.
2) "At the Hundredth Meridian," Wolf and Sedgar, post-game, AU inspired by the frontier wars in late 19th century USA.
3) "Perfect World," my barely-started attempt at an entry for
fe_contest #007, an attempt to exorcise the wtf-ery of Macedon. Even if it's not done by the deadline, this is probably worth finishing. ETA: uploaded to contest comm 8/8/10.
Meh. FE12 has sold 192,000 copies in three weeks. Can we have an EU/US release date already?
