other people's jobs

I felt productive today, but then I realized it was because I was doing things other people were supposed to have done for me.

1.) I signed up for summer payroll deduction ages ago. The way my school does it, we get paid extra but that money is supposed to cover our fees (we get a tuition waver). (Side note: go to grad school in the sciences - it's free! (ok there are some caveats)) So we sign up to get the money automatically deducted from our paychecks. So I did this like I was supposed to but our secretary canceled my request saying that I would get my fees paid out of some other grant this year. Then she said that was wrong and that she would reinstate my payroll deduction. So then yesterday I get an email saying I have an outstanding balance and my registrations would be put on hold. *sigh* I panicked a little thinking that I really did owe something, but when I called the bursar's office it turns out I wasn't signed up for payroll deduction. And of course it was too late for the deduction to take place for this month so I have to issue a check. I signed up for it again.

2.) I turned in a library book 2 months ago. A few days ago I get a reminder that it's going to be due soon (if that seems long, grad students can check out books for a year). I was 90% sure I'd turned it back in, but had a look around my (small) apartment and my office and didn't find it. So I went to the library myself, located it in the stacks, brought it to the front desk and told them what had happened. They checked it in for my while I stood there, so now I know I'm good. :-) I guess I could have just called them, but I needed to go to the library anyway.

Ok, I've put it off long enough. Tonight I will break the seal on my thesis LaTEX template and will write something down!!!
