John's been receiving invitations to attend a Veteran's Dinner, but he hasn't been planning to go - at least until Sherlock persuades him to. So John asks Sherlock to accompany him as his guest. At the dinner, Sherlock is quiet and John is growing irritable - until, while sitting together in a lot out back of the hotel, John learns how Sherlock feels about him.
Also - while telling Sherlock his feelings about the war, John burns his hand on a hot teapot. Sherlock helps him tend to it.
