Then, I already knew it would be... Went up to do some work on the house yesterday (main goals: installing new locks and thermostat) - found that the one deadbolt was a smaller hole than the modern standard, so left that for later. Installed back and basement knobs with no real issues (yay!). I didn't bother with the front door at this point, as I knew the one hole wasn't going to be big enough. Had to run home for the drill and jigsaw anyhow (wasn't sure what I had, but figured I could use the jigsaw to finish out the one hole easily enough), got back with some misc items (including snow shovel - did I mention the ~8 inches we got on Saturday?) to find
mama_ren and
daddy_dude had arrived to take a peek around. So I shoveled some of the driveway (right, I did mention the snow and the other driveway I already shoveled 2/3 of twice now? Good, just making sure) and went inside and installed the thermostat (What? It needs 2 AA's? All mine are at home.).
Right about then it had just turned 7pm and we were hungry - but on the way we decided that we should try to pick up the hole saws before dinner since it was Sunday and Lowes / Home Depot close early. We got there and found that they now close at 7pm, so KMart became our last hope (since they're not so employee-friendly with their 8am-10pm everyday hours). Got the last set (not exactly what I was picturing, but hopefully good enough) and ventured forth to one of our favorite local dining establishments. Only to find that they closed their dining room at 4pm (WTF?!?) but had limited menu offerings in the (smoking) bar.
Downtrodden, we continued to the next closest place (we passed most of the other preferred eateries in our travels - on the other side of town) and grabbed some food. A quick stop at home to grab aforementioned AA batteries, and we returned to the house to finish up (I figured it'd probably be an hour)... Of course, there were more things that needed done (wood to chisel out, and me with just my Swiss army knife... holes to deepen and widen, since deadbolts are longer than standard catches...), and working on exterior doors was a bit cold. 2 1/2 hours later I'd gotten enough accomplished to call it an evening (plus it was getting on 11pm, and I was asked to be at work early today), so we did some rudimentary cleaning and headed home. Right, so about that snow - now it was time to dig out
moondaizee's car (the easiest way to know that we got about 8" of snow that got a bit icy on the top). So much for going to bed early I suppose - life goes on.
Today, I expect to find out a bit about the sewer work and be able to decide where we're going to end up putting the laundry appliances (and whether the dryer will be electric or gas). Of course, then there's the 'big move' looming on Sunday - all things in consideration, I don't think I'm going to get quite as much moved beforehand as I had originally hoped, but it'll be fine regardless. One way or another :-P
