I woke up last night to see part of what was an unreasonably cold lunar eclipse. I'm not complaining, exactly, just pointing out that for a major astronomical event, it was remarkably ill managed, and something about a red moon just makes the cold feel even colder ( Read more... )

Thom and the kids got up in the middle of the night to see the eclipse. I stayed in bed. I saw a lunar eclipse in the late 80's and I figured that was good enough. I'm glad I stayed in bed because it was cloudy here and they didn't really see much. The kids did say that the sky was a neat orange color, but that was it.

Happy Solstice to you too! We celebrated by going for a night walk (after dinner, not for the eclipse). The boys were pleasantly surprised that today started about the same time as usual.
