I put a fresh install of Hardy-Gutsy-upgraded, actually, since I had so much trouble with the Hardy disk-and XP on there and I'm loving the cleanliness and speediness. • when kmix starts up, it sets the volume to 0. doesn't seem to be an alsamixer problem; checked settings there and saved it with alsactl store. this means i can never hear my startup sounds! precious ear candy lost!
