Cowles is the highest peak in San Diego, but I actually found it easier going than Fortuna, because the footing was more stable -- North Fortuna was all gravel, while the Cowles trail was mostly solid rock, except for one steep gravelly bit right near the summit. Also, there was more shade on the trail and I came better prepared, with lighter clothes and extra water. So the hike went really well, we got up and down with no misadventure and no heat exhaustion issues.
The rest of the challenge will have to wait until we get back from our UK trip.
