So I decided to make a fancy cake for The Boy’s birthday. Or, if you want to be totally honest about it, I wanted to make a fancy cake and his birthday was a convenient excuse. After some googling, I decided to go with
this recipe.. I’ve never made a mousse cake before, or used a cake collar, but hey, contestants on Great British Bake-off do it all the time, right?
It was actually not as difficult as I expected - a lot of steps, but each individual step was fairly straightforward. And this was the result:
I have no piping skills, and also no piping bag, so I couldn’t decorate it with pretty rosettes like the pictures in the recipe, but I think it looks pretty nice anyhow, and tastes awesome if I say so myself. You can just taste a hint of the Guiness under the chocolate.
10/10, would make again.
