Poll

For the record, I did half of mine with poppy seeds and half with some quince-and-plum paste I bought on impulse at Bristol farms. Mmmm, hamantashen...

prunes are traditional and therefore not to be scorned. But apricot is really good, too.

(I can't eat poppy seeds, so it's not an option for me, traditional or not)

Any kind of berry is Just Wrong.

I found a recipe I was actually tempted to try but me and baking...not so much. Maybe next year, when the kitchen is renovated.

(edited for typos, as usual)

Prunes get a bad rap, IMO. They can be very tasty, especially in baked goods.

And I agree, berries and hamantashen just don't go.

I sent my roomie out for some and she came back with chocolate. They were good, but they just weren't...right.

Yeah, much as I love chocolate in just about everything, hamentashen just isn't the right place for them.

Do you put chocolate in yours then? In the filling, or in the dough?

*Mine* are filled with poppy seeds. For the brats, I mean others in the house it varies: whatever jam they discover in the house, nuts, fruit mince or Nutella.

Jam can be good if it's not to liquidy (but not as good as poppy seeds!). I don't think I've ever tried Nutella as a filling.

Some jams are definitely more successful than others. We tried Nutella one year after the chocolate chips got eaten before the dough was finished.

Nothing beats "moen", poppy seeds, in my book. Just wish they had the easy filling here like they do back home.

Fine, I relent. I'll get some marzipan and poppy seed filling and make some Hamantaschen. :P

Seriously, my whole f-list is driving me to bake.

Not according to this poll. :-P

I've seen them made with almond paste or chopped nut mixtures.
