A few weeks ago (the day after Memorial Day, to be precise), I went to the zoo with
judyserenity and her husband and took a few pictures. Today, I went to Wild Animal Park with The Boy, and took a whole boatload of pictures. I'm especially happy with today's results, because The Boy kindly let me borrow his kick-ass telephoto lens, which is so much better than any lens I've ever shot with, it's not even funny. Damn, I wish I'd had one o those when I was in Antarctica last year.
I've also been discovering the joys of shooting digital photos in raw format and processing them afterwards. The results are way better than shooting jpg, even if each file does take up five times as much room on the memory card.
First, a few from the zoo:
I love a baby giant panda. I'd welcome one to my veranda.
The polar bears were very frisky that day.
And now, the animal park.
The lion exhibit is the best big-cat exhibit I've ever seen. It helped that we got there early in the morning, while they were still awake.
Is this the cutest thing ever, or what?
One day, I'll start taking a notebook along and writing down the names of various antelopes I see in zoos. There's too damn many different kinds.
I don't think I've ever seen a juvenile flamingo before. I didn't know they were that color.
These next two are for
suricattus That is one content-looking gorilla, huh?
Rainbow lorikeet: the one on the left is an adult feeding a chick.
Andean cock-of-the-rock, which has gotta be the coolest bird name ever.
I always think the okapi look like Dr. Frankenstein made them for practice.
This next one is a little gruesome, in that "Discovery Channel Documentary" sort of way. Don't look if the thought of cute furry animals being part of the food chain bothers you.
