Happy Birthday Kazuya! / The island of the day before

Our little one becomes 22 today!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAZUYA!!!

And something special for the occasion, two small excerpts from Umberto Eco's book "The island of the day before". Dedicated to our sweet Kazuya. It's incredible how it describes how I feel about him. Only the character to whom those words are attributed is not really sane - luckily I am not yet delusional. (And IF you like replace "Lady" with any word of your choice proper for a male because this was written by a boy for a girl.)

If love is a medicine that heals every pain with a yet greater pain, can I not perhaps conceive of it as a suffering that kills through excess every other suffering, until it becomes a balm for all save itself? For if I ever saw beauty and wanted it, it was only in the dream of you, and why should I lament that another beauty is for me equaly a dream?

Was it not the manifestation of the most perfect love, such as he professed to his Lady, loving from afar, renouncing the pride of dominion? Is aspiration to conquest love? If the Island were to be one with the object of his love, he owned the same nicety to it that he had shown to her. The same frenzied ~ he had felt everytime he feared another's eye threatened that sanctuary of reluctance was not to be interpreted as a claim to any right of his own, no, it was a denial of rights to anyone.
