Wow. A year ago this past weekend, I invited some friends over. We had a party, and trashed the kitchen.

No, really, we trashed the kitchen. As in, everything down to the studs went into the dumpster.

(I have awesome friends. Some of them still even appear to like me.)

It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year since Phase I of the renovation started. I still love it, still stand in the middle of  the kitchen sometimes and just admire it all.

I’d hoped to be launching Phase II right about now. But the first part - and 2013 in general - wound up a bit more expensive than planned (minor things like major electrical work, replacing all four wheel bearings on the car, an unexpectedly-dead water heater, etc). I’m a little concerned about waiting - being able to match countertops and the like - but all in all I think it’s more important to be comfortable with my finances. If all goes well this summer, I may look at getting re-started in September.

And once that’s done, there’ll be a real party. No dust masks needed.
