I bought it and played it a bit. It's exactly as great as I remember.

What's not as great is playing it with a gamepad. Especially now that I know that Descent is on gog, I might have to buy a joystick...

Yeah, I can't play it without a joystick either. I actually got my old copy up and running on a Mac G4 awhile back, but it couldn't recognize my modern joystick, and trying to play it on a keyboard just sucked.

I'm fighting the temptation to blow $200 on a high-end Saitek joystick and throttle set.

Kinda sucks that there aren't more modern flight sims. Also sad that GOG doesn't have Mechwarrior 3.

That reminds me of the ultimate strategy game I've wanted for years--a mechwarrior game running a mercenary company in a simulated galaxy, like Crusader Kings II except with turn-based tactical mech battles on a hex grid.

I haven't been able to find anything like that. :-\

It's not mechs, but there's a game called Shattered Union that's turn-based and on a hex grid, and involves managing a military force--both in terms of combat and deciding which units to buy.
