I press my face against your chest, your cold and frail chest. I can’t hear your heart beat. It makes me wonder if you’re really alive.
I press my face harder so I can feel your bones protruding on my face, I want to hear your heart, I want to know that you’re breathing.
You stare at me so blankly, your eyes don’t twinkle like they used to. I ask you if you’re alright, you nod at me, yet again with those dead eyes.
You question why I worry, I tell you that you don’t act the way you used to. You disregard me and walk away, but I know something isn’t right.
Yet again, I’m here, pressing my face against your chest. Your thin fingers running through my hair, almost rhythmically, I can hear a diminutive rhythm from beneath your chest.
Maybe you’re alive after all.
