A Short Survey for Fanfic Readers and Writers, Esp Within the FFXII Fandom

Oct 20, 2007 10:08

Here are just a few survey questions about reading and writing fanfic (especially within the FFXII fandom) that I’d like to toss out at my f-list and any kind people who might have wandered by. I'm merely asking these questions out of curiosity so you needn't worry about ending up in, say, a thesis paper anytime soon. ;) And please feel free to ( Read more... )

General Questions for Writers:

1. Once upon a time I posted something every two weeks. If I was working on a big project, I'd post a chapter of that, plus something else. Now...hahahaha, I haven't written anything in months.

2. Yes. During my very creative periods, when I'm posting daily, definitely.

3. Only when I'm in one of my super-creative times. Like I said, I have periods where I'll post every day for a month, and then others where I'll have a dry spell that lasts for two or three months. Because of these dry spells, people often take some time to notice that I've started writing again.

4. I don't know that I'm quite prolific enough in any one category to have gotten pigeonholed...unless as a Sanzo/Gojyo writer for the Saiyuki fandom. But I'm not all that interested in breaking free of that mold...I like the couple too much to want to break them up.

General Questions for Readers:

5. Oh, yes. Sometimes I try to be critical and nice, but there are other friends who could and would make my life an unhappy place should I stick my editing nose where it was not wanted, so I leave them alone.

6. Guilty as charged. This happens most often in fic so good in intimidates me...I'm honestly frightened the author will look up my work (I tend to look up the people who comment/review my work and see what they're doing)!

7. Yes. If I already know the author and they write a new story, I'll comment to let them know I saw it. But I miss commenting sometimes anyway, just because I feel I have nothing constructive to say.

8. Hahahaha...my sister writes. Long ago, we both just started telling each other "yes, it's good" because neither of us really likes the other's style. XD

General Questions for Those Within the FFXII Fandom:

8. Ah! Um...oh, how do I choose? Sheffiesharpe's the first one I friended around here, and I love her Basch and Balthier, but mithrigil's Vossler is so wonderful, and you're the first one who actually made me think about Penelo! Manic_intent's got some great au's...and I know I've dropped by laylah and maho-kiwi's stuff several times (haven't commented as much as I should--sorry!). Can't decide.

9. Hmmm...generally, if I don't like a story, I won't even make it all the way through, so I don't really form a lasting impression of the author.

10. I tend to feel like there is an "in" and an "out" crowd around here, and I don't often feel included in it. Part of that seems to be a physical proximity problem (it seems several of these people have met/know each other irl), but most of it is simply because I'm not very prolific.

11. Awful confession...I cannot stand Vayne. Seriously. Even if it's an author I like, if I see Vayne in the summary, I won't read.

12. My favorite is the Basch/Balthier (or opposite way 'round) ship, followed closely by the Basch/Vossler (again, reversible) ship. I've written some very, very small ficbits for Basch/Balthier, but really not much.

13. Erm...nope. Don't think I've been around long enough for that.

14. You know, the only people I know who like this stuff are all online, so I'm always happy to meet new people who like it. I really can't complain about the size of the community when I'm not very active in it, you know?

15. I have an account on ij, but haven't posted anything there, and so often forget to check people's pages. Unless they give me a pointer here, I'll probably only pop over once every couple of weeks.

*whew* Hopefully that's helpful to you, my dear.
