Ah, so, summer is coming to a close. I have one more day of vegetation surveys left, and otherwise all I have to do is data entry and analysis. I am living at the cottage by myself, which is quite nice. I only wish that my computer screen would show up in the sun, and that I could do my work outside. Overall I would say it has been a good summer. Very productive in the research department. I will now share some photos with you
AHHH! this is the distubing photo, btw. I discovered this one day when I went to check if the young had fledged yet. They had not, as, alas, a red squirrel had chomped them. I'm not sure how this one died... I'm thinking heart attack since there were no signs of trauma. I've never seen something like this before, because predators don't normally leave food behind. I thought it was pretty neat. And if you think I'm morbid, well, it's the circle of life, and it moves us all!
Not quite nature... palm trees on Lake Erie? Hmmmmm. The reason why these things were planted in my back yard was because the owner's son got married on the beach, and because the bride to be obviously has very tacky taste. It was a tropical themed wedding. What? A theme wedding? Right away, it's tacky. All of the men were wearing hawaiian shirts, and there were little palm trees everywhere. And if you still don't think that's tacky, they drove away in an SUV limo. There is no disuputing that!
