I've noticed over the years that I have two types of project dawdling. This can apply to handwork/fiber crafts as well as programming for work or chores at home (to a lesser extent).
The first is when a project isn't going right, and I set it aside until I can figure out how to fix it. This is fine, and has helped me fix ailing projects plenty of times. I know lots of people who work like this, too.
The second, though, is more puzzling, as it is fairly nonsensical. I find I'll often be pushing hard to work on a project and I'll get 'ahead' in the progress. So if I get too far ahead, I'll stop working on it for a while, at least partly because I don't want to finish it 'too soon'. I seem to be afraid of running out of project to work on. This is the nonsense part, because of course there's always another project or 10 waiting. Anyone else ever have this problem? I think now that I've recognized it, I'll be able to work on changing the impulse to stall, but it's still strange.
