odd day

I had four entirely unexpected stretches of time completely to myself today. N. had gone to a birthday party for a classmate and they kicked us parents out (pick up at noon, bye!), so with A. cutting up a tree and my mom undergoing medical tests, I sat in an actual coffee shop for an entire half hour all by myself with nobody needing anything to me.
It was very odd.
Then after I got everyone fed and home, N. took off to play at neighbours' houses not once, not twice, but THREE separate times.
For one of them, I started dinner, but for the other two, I just sat around and read. Amazing.

(I realize that for those of my friends who are not parents reading this, this sounds very much like sarcasm. I can assure you it is not.)

In other news, I walked around the smaller block in my neighbourhood once, and rode the other Razor scooter a bit, too. My foot is unhappy now, but it's not killing me. I think it might actually be improving slightly.
We'll see.
