Didja miss me?
Yesterday felt like Sunday, which means that today was a free day. After a solitary swim/hot-tubbing and a group breakfast, I left the hotel around 11, drove to Philly and took a not-exactly-voluntary tour of downtown Philly (I-676 was blocked with stopped traffic from the middle of the Ben Franklin Bridge to waaaay past PA 611, so I took a look at my printout of Philly and took 611/Broad to Passyunk to the car rental place. I did get to gawk at Independence Hall (I think that's what that was), so it wasn't a total loss. I learned an important lesson - even if you think you are late to turn in your rental car, stop to get gas! My wallet is gonna smart from that one for a while. Flight was completely uneventful, which was great, and I found my mom's car with only a little difficulty.
I did have a bit of fun being a courier for
splagxna - on the way home, I was carrying a citole,
made by the fellow who runs
this graphically intensive website about it, and a lady at the car rental place asked me what it was. I told her:
'It's a citole, a 14th century stringed instrument, kind of like an early mandolin. And no, I actually don't play it, I play the bagpipes. I'm carrying it for a friend of mine.'
She was completely unsurprised, and just said 'Oh, how interesting! Does your friend play it?'
I said 'not yet, but she will. She does play the harp already.'
The lady's daughter asked 'so, where are your bagpipes?', which was kind of funny.
We bicycled to swim lesson while A. went to the airport to pick up my mom, who got in this afternoon. She's still flying pretty high herself. Now I'm starting to crash pretty hard, since I stayed up until 12:30 for two nights in a row and still got up at 6:30. I hope I can get it together enough to make dinner.
