In which paint is spread around.

Over the weekend, I did manage to accomplish several of my projects, but they were all pretty little. I sanded and painted (twice each) the doorway between the dining room and living room, I sanded and painted (once each) the dining room chairs, and I hung up my grandmother's mirrors in the dining room. The chairs should be dry enough to use by today or tomorrow, so we'll have a real dining room set. Yay! We have this grungy old sideboard-looking thing that is currently in our living room, and I want to sand that down and paint it, too, and then I'll have a complete dining set, but that's not going to happen for a while. I think I'm going to make/buy some cushions for my dining room chairs, but I haven't decided yet what they should look like. Sounds like a trip to the fabric store is in order. Oh darn, the sacrifices I must make...

Luckily, I managed to do all of my sanding and painting without help, mostly through very careful planning on my part. Nate spent time with his grandma on Friday, with his Mimi on Saturday, and a little while with his dad on Sunday, all of which gave me time to paint. For the most part, I'm fine with letting Nate help me do things, even including painting stuff, but I really did want these things to come out well. He helped with the first coat of paint on the dining room chairs, and I had to sand out a few a lot of dried drips and ugly brush strokes, but after I pained them again, they look great. As my mom-in-law says, it only takes twice as long when they help you.

I've been running on a 'helpful child' model of parenting for several years now, and it is definitely starting to pay off - Nate helped all weekend- cleaning, cooking, carrying in groceries, pushing the shopping cart, helping walk the dog, and so on. He still needs LOTS of oversight, but it is definitely getting better.
