And the diagnosis is....

The doctor I had a was jerk. :-P Oh yeah, and I have bronchitis. I don't have swine flu, but I did have some sort of cold that set off an asthma attack and it evolved into bronchitis.

I finally gave up and went into the doctor because I started coughing up nasty things. I initially went into the quick clinic, but they sent me over to urgent care because the QC doc thought I needed a chest x-ray.

The doc in urgent care was the epitome of doctors that make me insane. I've been lucky and had a few doctors who were great to work with, but I seem to be on a lousy streak now. First, the doctor asked me a bunch of questions, but he wouldn't tell me anything. "I'm going to have them do a test on you."

Of course, he didn't tell me what kind or what he was testing for.

Second, he prescribed me some medication that I wasn't familiar with. "What does it do?" I asked. He responded with, "It'll help control your asthma." What kind of dumb ass answer is that? No kidding...but how does it control it? I assume since you said that I was having a flair up of my asthma that you're going to give me something to help it. Don't give me some sort of vague answer like my students write in their labs. (I'm now wondering how many premeds I've got.)

Third, he acted like it was my fault my asthma was acting up. This is one that I need to take care of, but here's the thing: as far as I knew, I only had exercise-induced asthma. My instructions are to use an inhaler before I exercise. Obviously, that's not cutting it, but this whole chronic asthma thing has popped up in the last year or so.

Finally, he didn't believe me when I told him that I can't take antihistamines because they put me to sleep. He said that I could take them at night. No, I said, that doesn't take care of the problem. I feel sleepy and lightheaded all day long. He said I should try a different brand. I said that I've tried all 3 of the daily antihistamines. Then he seemed really pissed off. I don't understand why doctors don't believe me when I tell them about that problem.
